Veronica Brovall (*1975, Falun, Sweden) studied at the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and has lived and worked in Berlin since 2003. Her drawings, sculptures and installations have been shown in solo exhibitions across Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Iceland and the UK, including Bildmuseet, Uppsala Konstmuseum and Bror Hjorts Hus. She has completed numerous public commissions across Sweden and is represented in collections including Moderna Museet, Malmö Konstmuseum and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation.

Bark Protects, Bone Carries, Ring Gathers. A circle in a pine forest: daughters at fourteen o'clock, grandmothers at eighteen. Others were present but not yet seen. It is a place where different temporalities can become present at the same time — generations, lives, meeting to gather what they carry. Months later: a sawn cross-section of a tree became the face of a clock. A dog's chew bone, three-pronged, broken down to two, became its hand.

The sculptures are cast in red brick clay with iron oxide — imprints of a teddy bear's skull, a dog bone, wings, and a section of birch bark taken from this forest. They hang from the branches on hemp rope.

Bark protects. Bone carries. Honeycomb organises. Ring gathers.
