Sonya Schönberger is a Berlin-based artist whose practice spans video, installation, and sculpture. Her work explores biographical ruptures shaped by political and social change, drawing on personal interviews, historical research, and archival material. In 2018, she initiated the Berliner Zimmer, a century-long video archive documenting and preserving the life stories of people in Berlin.

Wald-Baracke is based on an artistic research project centered on a small wooden barrack located on the forest grounds. Built in 1941, the structure served as accommodation for forced laborers employed in the construction of the Reichsautobahn A24. Through archival research, historical documentation, and the investigation of the site's remaining traces, this long term research will examine the barrack as a silent witness to the history of forced labor under the Nazi regime. This approach reflects on the ways in which places of violence and exploitation are remembered, forgotten, and embedded within the contemporary landscape.
