Natalia Medebach (*1973, St. Petersburg, RU/DE) is a conceptual artist and spiritual teacher based in Vasoldsberg, Austria. Her work explores the relationship between invisible connections and visible separations or boundaries between the macro and the micro worlds. For Natalia, her art and her life form a complex unity, with each part defined only in relation to the whole.

The installation consists of two walkable labyrinths, each in the form of a spiral. One spiral is made of a single thread, while the other consists of two coloured threads running parallel to one another. All threads are suspended at a height of 140 cm above the ground.

Threads of Life – Unity. This artistic work represents our connection to Mother Nature, which accompanies us throughout our lives. It is made from natural materials. A main thread carries thinner threads that hang vertically. The main thread emerges from the earth and leads visitors outward in the form of a spiral, repeatedly connecting with its surroundings by being wrapped around trees and guided from one tree to the next.

Anyone visiting the forest can take part by attaching something they have found in the forest to one of the vertical threads, which will represent them, thereby connecting themselves to the main thread and to all the other vertical threads. Next to the installation, there is a short set of instructions inviting visitors to participants.

Threads of Life – Diversity. This work represents the diversity of the different life stories of the people participating in the project.

With this project, the artist aims to reveal the diversity of life by bringing together many people through blue and red threads, as well as through their different life stories and significant life events. These are represented by various hanging objects or keywords written on pieces of fabric that are suspended vertically from the threads.

The long threads, carrying the participants' stories, are then connected to one another. The labyrinth of the two coloured threads begins at a Wheel of Life, from which the blue and red threads extend parallel to the ground in the form of a spiral, connecting to the surrounding trees. Visitors to the forest can walk through the installation and discover the life stories of the project's participants.
