Seismosaurus, 2025
Klara Hobza (*1975, Pilsen, CZ/DE) works across media in a conceptually driven practice shaped by narratives of bold, self-experienced undertakings. Her multi-layered works approach natural phenomena with analytical precision and often a touch of humor, woven together by a consistent thread of discovery, playfulness, and wonder. Hobza’s projects engage deeply with nature, revealing a strong fascination with the animal world and a playful yet investigative approach to the boundaries of science.
Submerged among fallen pines, giants – one must have physically felt the place – we discover a plausible form: the spine of a Seismosaurus, with over 30 meters, one of the longest dinosaurs. The artist facilitates the emergence of the spine from the marine sand – now forest – while its retrieval goes hand in hand with learning the craft of woodcarving. In this process, Hobza relies exclusively on knowledge transmitted analogously through interpersonal encounters and her own experiences carving the fallen tree. Through the months-long process of "Seismosaurus," stories and other images emerge around the carved spine.
